Next Week: Ormond Beach's Zone 2 and Zone 4 Races and What to Know Before You Vote
By Staff report

Election Day is next Tuesday, Nov. 3, and early voting ends this Saturday, Oct. 31. Here is what Ormond Beach voters should know about the two City Commission races before they cast a ballot.
- The short version
- Early voting ends Saturday, Oct. 31. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., including at the Ormond Beach Regional Library.
- Zone 2: incumbent Travis Sargent faces Jennifer Bright. Zone 4: incumbent Harold Briley faces Amber Bobak.
- Mail ballots must reach the Supervisor of Elections in DeLand by 7 p.m. on Nov. 3.
- Election Day polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bring a photo ID with a signature.
Zone 2: Travis Sargent and Jennifer Bright
Sargent is the incumbent, a Marine Corps veteran who has worked in insurance for more than 20 years and has served on the commission since 2022. He lists public safety, city technology and an artificial intelligence advisory board among his priorities.
Bright is a retired financial data analyst who moved to Ormond Beach in 2021. She says the commission should pay more attention to existing residents and the infrastructure the city already has, and she is running for office for the first time.
Zone 4: Harold Briley and Amber Bobak
Briley is the incumbent, a real estate agent who served 21 years on the Planning Board before winning the seat in 2022. He says most of the growth residents see comes from neighboring cities and that he has worked to reduce the city's growth rate.
Bobak, who has lived in Ormond Beach nearly 28 years, serves on the Planning Board and entered public life by appealing a proposed gas station near her home. She emphasizes traffic, development pressure and environmental protection.
Briley finished first in the August primary with about 41.9% to Bobak's 38.8%, according to unofficial results.
Our Nov. 3 ballot guide has more on both races.
Issues Worth Asking About
Several decisions in front of the next commission came up repeatedly this year:
River Bend Golf Course: A petition with more than 3,000 signatures asks the city to reopen the idle course. Commissioners plan a workshop on the site's future.
City budget and Amendment 3: The city estimated in June that the statewide property tax amendment on this ballot could cost it about $8.2 million by 2028.
Growth and development: Projects such as Tractor Supply on North U.S. 1 have drawn neighbor concerns about traffic and flooding.
Data centers: The city has taken up its own data center rules.
How to Vote
Early voting: Through Saturday, Oct. 31, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St., or any county early voting site.
Mail ballots: The deadline to request one has passed. If you already have yours, it must be received by the Supervisor of Elections in DeLand by 7 p.m. on Nov. 3. Return it at an early voting site or by mail, but not at an Election Day polling place.
Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 3, polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at your assigned precinct. Bring a photo ID with a signature.
Questions: The Supervisor of Elections can be reached at 386-736-5930.
