Get Your Kid's Fishing Rod Ready: 'Reel in the Fun' Returns to Bailey Riverbridge Gardens

The catch-and-release tournament is open to children ages 4 to 12 and takes place at Bailey Riverbridge Gardens, 1 North Beach St. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., with fishing running from 9 to 11 a.m. Teams consist of one adult and up to two children, and adult supervision is required throughout.

Registration is required in advance, and participants must be City of Ormond Beach residents to register. Anglers are responsible for bringing their own fishing gear, and only live or dead bait is permitted given the close quarters expected along the fishing pier. Adults are allowed to help bait hooks, net fish, and untangle lines, but may not cast or retrieve the line themselves, keeping the actual fishing squarely in kids' hands.

Awards go out at 11:30 a.m., with first-place prizes sponsored by Ike Leary and Granada Pier Bait & Tackle, and second- and third-place prizes sponsored by the Ormond Beach Elks Lodge 2193. All anglers must fish from the pier or shoreline — wading into the water is not permitted — and standard Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rules apply throughout the event.
