Two Ormond Beach City Commission races, five county charter amendments and three statewide amendments are on your ballot this year, and you have several ways to vote. Here is what you need to know, whether you plan to vote early, by mail or on Election Day.

  • The short version
  • Request a mail ballot by 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 — that's tomorrow.
  • Early voting runs Oct. 19 to 31, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, including at the Ormond Beach Regional Library.
  • Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at your assigned precinct.
  • Bring a photo ID with a signature when you vote in person.

Why Your Vote Matters Here

Local races can come down to a handful of votes. In the Aug. 18 primary, the Zone 4 contest between Harold Briley and Amber Bobak finished with fewer than 70 votes separating them, and the two are now on the Nov. 3 ballot against each other. The commission also decides how the city plans for growth, flooding, parks and its budget, and a statewide property tax amendment on this ballot could change how that budget works.

Your Ballot at a Glance

Zone 2: Travis Sargent (incumbent) and Jennifer Bright

Zone 4: Harold Briley (incumbent) and Amber Bobak

Also on your ballot: Statewide, congressional and legislative contests, five Volusia County charter amendments, three statewide constitutional amendments (each needs 60% to pass) and Volusia County Council races. Your exact ballot depends on your address, so look up your sample ballot with the Supervisor of Elections before you go.

Zone 3 is not a contest. Kristin Deaton was reelected automatically after her challenger withdrew.

Option 1: Vote Early (Oct. 19 to 31)

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St. You may use any of the county's eight early voting sites.

Hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

Option 2: Vote by Mail

The deadline to request a mail ballot is Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. That is tomorrow. You can request one through the Supervisor of Elections or by calling 386-736-5930.

Your completed ballot must reach the Supervisor of Elections office in DeLand by 7 p.m. on Nov. 3. You can mail it or hand it in at a secure ballot intake station at any early voting site during voting hours. It cannot be returned at an Election Day polling place.

If you've already received a mail ballot, don't wait for the last day. Mailing it early is the safest option.

Option 3: Vote on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 3)

Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You must vote at your assigned precinct, which is printed on your voter information card and available through the Supervisor of Elections.

Anyone in line at 7 p.m. may still vote.

What to Bring

Florida requires a photo ID with a signature when you vote in person. A Florida driver license or ID card works. If your photo ID does not have a signature, you will need a second ID that does. Check with the Supervisor of Elections if you are unsure which IDs are accepted.

Not Sure Where You Stand?

You can check your registration status, see your sample ballot, find your precinct and track a mail ballot on the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections website. Registration for this election closed Oct. 5. If you moved or changed your name, call the office at 386-736-5930 to ask about your options.
